2021: After Herschel Patel, AB showed tail, Bangalore beat Mumbai to make a victorious start to the tournament

Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 159 for nine in the allotted 20 overs, which Royal Challengers Bangalore achieved by losing eight wickets on the last ball thanks to a brilliant innings of 48 runs by AB de Villiers.


In pursuit of the target, North Bangalore's innings was started by Washington Sundar and Virat Kohli. Sundar scored 10 runs while captain Kohli scored 33 runs. Rajat Patidar scored 8 runs, Muskwell 39 runs, De Villiers 48 runs, Kyle Jamieson and Herschel Patel scored four runs while Shahbaz Nadeem and Dan Christine scored one run each. After losing the toss and opting to bat first, North Mumbai Indians scored 159 for 9 in 20 overs thanks to a brilliant innings of 49 by opener Chris Lin and 31 by Surya Kumar Yadav. Bangalore's medium fast bowler Herschelle Patel bowled brilliantly and took five wickets for just 27 runs in four overs. Patel took three wickets off the first four balls in the last and 20th over of the innings.

Mumbai skipper Rohit Sharma was run out for 19 off 15 balls with the help of a four and a six. Chris Lin hit four fours and three sixes in 49 off 35 balls. Lin and Surya Kumar Yadav added 70 runs for the second wicket. Surya Kumar hit four fours and a six off 31 balls for 31 runs. Young wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan scored 28 off 19 balls with two fours and a six while Hardik Pandya hit two fours off 13 balls off 13 balls. Kieron Pollard (7) and Cronal Pandya (7) were LBWed by medium fast bowler Herschel Pandya. After these two wickets, Patel did not give any run on the third ball and bowled Marco Jensen on the fourth ball.

On the last ball of Patel's over, Rahul Chahar was run out without opening his account while Jaspreet Bumrah remained unbeaten on one run.
