PSL: Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans

Karachi: In the third match of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6, Islamabad United defeated Multan Sultans by three wickets. Multan Sultans gave Islamabad United a target of 151 runs to win.

The third match of PSL 6 was being played at National Stadium Karachi. In the third match, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan decided to field first after winning the toss and scored 150 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. Multan Sultans did not start the innings well. Multan Sultans opener Chris Lane was dismissed for just one run in the second over. He was a victim of Faheem Ashraf. After Chris, James Vance and captain Rizwan showed responsibility but James Vance returned to the pavilion after scoring 16 runs on a total score of 52. He was bowled by Louis Gregory.

The wickets of Multan Sultans then started falling intermittently and apart from Rousseau, Sohaib Maqsood and Khushdal Shah also failed to play better innings. All three players scored 25, 2 and 7 runs respectively.

In pursuit of the target of 151 runs, Islamabad United started cautiously. His first wicket fell when the total was just 30 runs. His dismissal was Phil Salt, who returned to the pavilion with 13 runs. He was dismissed by Mohammad Omar. Captain Shadab Khan also returned to the pavilion soon and he scored only five runs. Alex Hales was bowled by Shahid Afridi for an individual score of 29. Islamabad's wickets then fell intermittently. Asif Ali, Iftikhar Ahmed, Hussain Talat and Fahm Ashraf scored 9, 1, 10 and 22 runs respectively.

Mohammad Rizwan batted responsibly on this occasion and played a brilliant innings of 71 off 53 balls. He was dismissed when the team's total score was 140 runs. Muhammad Waseem showed them the way to the pavilion. Former national cricket team captain Shahid Afridi was also dismissed by Muhammad Waseem on the first ball while Sohail Tanveer could only make fours. He got out on the ball of Hassan Ali. For Islamabad United, Muhammad Waseem got three wickets, Louis Gregory got two wickets and Hassan Ali, Fahim Ashraf and Shadab Khan got one wicket each.

Louis Gregory played a very responsible innings on this occasion and scored 49 runs off just 31 balls and played a great role in the victory of the team. He was also named Man of the Match. For Multan Sultans, Carlos Braithwaite and Shahid Afridi took 2 wickets each while Mohammad Omar and Khushdal Shah took one wicket each.
