Mumbai: Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 69 runs in the IPL match on Sunday and in the points table thanks to the excellent all-rounder play of all-rounder Ronder Jadeja (not out 62, three for 13 and one run out). Reached first place. Chennai scored a challenging 191 for four in the allotted 20 overs and stopped Bangalore at 122 for nine in the 20 overs to force Bangalore to suffer its first defeat in five matches. In the last over of the innings, Jadeja made 37 off Herschel Patel's balls, including five sixes, and equaled Chris Gayle's 2011 record for most runs in an over.
Jadeja then showed his hand in bowling, catching Washington Sundar (7) at the hands of Raturaj Gaikwad and then bowling Glenn Maxwell (22) and AB de Villiers (4). Jadeja runs out Daniel Christine (1). In Chennai's innings, Faf du Plessis hit five fours and a six off 50 balls. Raturaj Gaikwad hit four fours and a six off 33 balls. Left-arm batsman Suresh Reena hit a four and three sixes in 24 runs off 18 balls.
Kyle Jameson made 16 off 13 balls with the help of a four and a six and was run out by Imran Tahir's thrower. Tahir bowled Prash Patel. Patel does not eat. Hazwinder Chahal scored eight not out and Mohammad Siraj scored 12 not out to save Bangalore from being all out. For Chennai, Jadeja took three wickets for 13 runs, Tahir took two wickets for 16 runs, Crane took one wicket for 35 runs and Thackeray took one wicket for 11 runs. Jadeja was named Man of the Match for his all-rounder performance.
